The Health Benefits of Olive Leaf Extract Revealed

by Henri

Olive leaf extract is derived from the leaves of the olive tree. Lesser known than olive oil, which is pressed from the fruits of the tree, olive leaf extract offers several health benefits.

Ancient Egyptians and Mediterraneans understood the benefits of olive leaf extract, and used it to treat a wide variety of maladies.

The Olea europeae is the most commonly used olive tree for commercial reasons. The silvery-green leaves of this evergreen tree are 2-4 inches long and up to about an inch wide.

Cardiovascular Health

The benefits of olive leaf extract are well documented. Associated with the use of olive leaf extract is cardiovascular improvement.

It helps to lower Low-density lipoproteins (LDL), known as the bad cholesterol. With correct use, it lowers blood pressure and increases blood flow by relaxing the arteries.

This was shown in a twins trial – one identical twin was placed on OLF therapy, whereas the other twin was not.

After eight weeks, the twins on the OLF treatment had lower blood pressure and lower LDL. These results clearly show the benefits of olive leaf extract.

Immunostimulants

The benefits of olive leaf extract also include the immunostimulant effect. An immunostimulant is a substance that helps the immune system do its work better.

Its most benign use is to fight the common cold and flu. It is also used to treat yeast infections, ringworm, and viral diseases that are more difficult to treat. Examples include herpes infections, shingles, and the Epstien-Barr disease.

At its strongest, antioxidants present also help mobilize the body against more severe threats, such as cancers of the liver, prostate, and breast.

Antioxidants neutralize free radicals that are the cause of many problems associated with aging, cancer development, and Alzheimer’s.

Neutralizing free radicals can improve longevity and well-being late into life. These are also tied into the benefits of olive leaf extract.

Miscellaneous Uses

Impetigo, pink eye, ear infections, and eye infections, gout, boils, and rashes can all benefit from therapy with OLF. The benefits of olive leaf extract are contraindicated with prescribed antibiotics.

It seems to work as a pathogen inhibitor, shutting down the specific processes that a pathogen uses to replicate itself.

Cosmetics

OLF is used in conjunction with olive oil to create moisturizers, soaps, and creams for topical application.

It also helps rejuvenate and reinvigorate connective tissue, which fights wrinkles and smoothes out skin tone.

Other creams are used to stimulate the muscles and joints to increase blood flow prior to engaging in sports or vigorous activity.

These benefits of olive leaf extract make it very suitable for cosmetic applications.

Different Forms of Olive Leaf

In modern times, olive leaf extract can be taken in liquid, capsule, infusion (tea), or powder. In tea form, it has a flavor similar to coffee, but ingestion can be in any form; the same suite of benefits is derived when taken internally.

In addition to the benefits of olive leaf extract listed above, many people report that they have generally more energy and a greater sense of well-being after they start taking olive leaf extract.

Side effects of use include very low blood pressure and low blood sugar levels. Both of these can be avoided if dosages are followed carefully.

Interactions with other pharmaceuticals may enhance these effects. Despite the benefits of olive leaf extract, it should not be viewed as a panacea.

It is instrumental in homeopathic medicine, but should be used in conjunction with other treatments.

It has also been shown that when you blend olive leaf extract into a multi-nutrient formula, the health benefits are boosted and even absorption is increased in some cases.

I have been taking olive leaf extract for six weeks, I have lost 10 kgs, it has reduced my appetite, and for the last 7 years I have had high pressure in my eyes and so every 6 months I have been having tests for glaucoma. Went to the eye specialist for testing and for the first time in 7 years my eye pressure is normal!! Yet six weeks ago before taking the olive leaf my eye pressure was high. I am amazed at what the olive leaf extract is doing for me, I feel fantastic now!!
