Learning the facts about vitamins will help you in more ways than you can imagine. Vitamins are called micro-nutrients because they are only needed in small quantities by your body.

Compare this to protein, carbohydrates, fats and water which you need to consume in much larger quantities to stay alive.

There are a lot of facts about vitamins circulating out there, which makes it hard to find truly good information. On the other hand, it is better to have too much information than too little.

Vitamin B3 – Also known as niacin. Vitamin B3 has been found to reduce bad (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides, while raising the good (HDL) cholesterol.  It has also been proven to promote healthy skin, nerve function, digestive system and help with brain function.

Vitamin B5 – Also known as pantothenic acid. Vitamin B5 plays a role in the healthy of your adrenal glands. It is important in producing antibodies, healing wounds and ensuring proper gastrointestinal function.

Vitamin B6 – Also known as pyridoxine. Vitamin B6 is involved in many functions in your body. It actually consists of three different forms: pridoxal, pyridoxamine and pyridoxine. It has been shown that a large majority of people are deficient in B6. It is needed for tissue repair, antibodies, absorption of Vitamin B12, red cell formation and normal brain function, just to name a few.

Vitamin B12 – Also known as cobalamin. Vitamin B12 helps your body maintain a healthy nervous system, proper digestion, production of DNA & RNA and also helps with the absorption of different foods.

Biotin – Promotes healthy hair, skin, nerve tissue, nails, energy production. It has also been shown to help with hair loss in those that suffer from deficiencies or have health problems.

Vitamin C – The  most popular vitamin of them all. Helps prevent cancer, heart disease, diabetes and reduces aging because of its anti-oxidant properties. There are too many benefits of vitamin C to mention here.

Vitamin D – The sunshine vitamin. Promotes a proper calcium balance, boosts immunity, regulates your blood pressure, protects against cancer, osteoporosis, Alzheimer’s, high blood pressure and a host of other ailments.

Vitamin E – A powerful anti-oxidant that helps slow down the effects of aging. It also keeps your circulatory system healthy, reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke and can even protect against certain cancers.

Vitamin K – There are three forms of vitamin K: K1, K2 and K3. It can help us live longer, prevent blood clots, helps your body absorb calcium and recent studies have suggested that it may be able to prevent the loss of bone density

Do You Need a Multi-Vitamin Supplement?

To be honest, it might not be absolutely vital in order for you to live a normal life, but if you want to feel better and reach optimal health, then I personally believe that using a high quality supplement helps.
